What an affternoon at the Olimpico. A 2-0 victory over Lazio in the Derby della Capitale and now Roma sit in the Champions League places with one match left to play. Pressure? This team thrives on it.
From the first whistle we looked hungry. Lazio thought they could survive the storm early on, but wave after wave of Roma pressure kept coming. Pisilli was outstanding with his delivery all game, and Mancini rose like a warrior before halftime to bury the opener with a thunderous header that sent the Curva into absolute madness.
Lazio tried to respond, but Svilar stayed calm and solid whenever needed. Then came the second half and Roma never stopped fighting. Malen nearly produced a goal of the season contender, Dybala was pulling strings everywhere, and eventually another deadly corner found Mancini again. Same result. Same explosion inside the stadium. Two goals. Two headers. One captain leading by example.
And because it’s a Rome derby, of course tempers exploded. Mancini and Maldini going at it, players everywhere, red cards flying — pure chaos and passion. But even down to 10 men, Roma looked completely in control.
Dovbyk nearly added a third seconds after coming on, smashing the post, but honestly the damage was already done. Lazio beaten again. Five derby matches unbeaten against them now. This city belongs to Roma.
And credit to Gasperini too — becoming only the second Roma manager in 50 years to win his first two Rome derbies. Massive mentality. Massive performance. One more battle left now to secure Champions League football where this club belongs.
