On 20 April 2025 by GillyowlAS Roma 1 – 0 Verona
In a thrilling encounter, an early goal from Eldor Shomurodov, beautifully set up by Matias Soulé, propelled Roma to a victory over Verona, reigniting their quest for European qualification.
The Giallorossi were eager to extend their impressive 16-game unbeaten streak, although they had experienced a bit of a lull recently with two consecutive 1-1 draws against formidable opponents Juventus and Lazio. With Paulo Dybala and Saud Abdulhamid sidelined, and Artem Dovbyk not quite at his best, Roma faced their challenges head-on. On the other side, Hellas Verona was also missing key players like Casper Tengstedt and Aboud Harroui, while Tomas Suslov and Cheikh Niasse were only fit to contribute from the bench.
Despite these setbacks, Roma showcased their resilience and determination, remaining focused on their goal of securing a spot in European competition. With the crowd behind them, the Giallorossi are ready to take on whatever comes next!
It was a lively and spirited start from Hellas, with Amine Sarr and Jackson Tchatchoua showcasing their speed and creativity as they charged at Roma’s defenders, eager to create scoring opportunities. However, Roma grabbed the spotlight first when Bryan Cristante delivered a brilliant cross-field pass. Matias Soule skillfully controlled it, shrugging off Nicolas Valentini with flair before delicately chipping it over the approaching goalkeeper. Shomurodov was right there to make sure it found the net, bundling it over the line from close range.
Soule wasn’t done yet; he put Montipó to the test with a clever cut inside Domagoj Bradaric, firing a shot at the near post. Daniel Mosquera also had his moments, though he scuffed a promising chance against Mile Svilar and later saw a powerful header deflected for a corner.
After the break, Mosquera kept up his energy, shrugging off Gianluca Mancini as he surged upfield, only to see his curled effort narrowly miss the target. At the other end, Tommaso Baldanzi tried to respond, but his right-footed shot slipped just wide of the mark.
Then, Dovbyk entered the scene and instantly made an impact, receiving the ball from Manu Kone with his back to the goal. With a quick turn, he unleashed a shot that went just inches wide of the near post, leaving the crowd buzzing with anticipation. The match was certainly heating up, full of promise and thrilling moments from both sides!
