Match Report – Inter V AS Roma – 27th April 2025

On 27 April 2025 by Gillyowl

Inter 0 – 1 AS Roma

Inter’s season is taking a rough turn, suffering their third consecutive defeat across all competitions as Matias Soulé’s brilliance secured all three points for Roma at San Siro. It’s been a tough week for the Nerazzurri, who were already feeling the heat after losing to Bologna, allowing Napoli to rise to the top of the table, followed by a disappointing exit from the Coppa Italia at the hands of Milan. Missing key players like Alessandro Bastoni and Henrikh Mkhitaryan, along with Marcus Thuram’s injury, certainly didn’t help their cause. Meanwhile, the Giallorossi, despite missing stars like Paulo Dybala, showed great resilience with a surprising lineup featuring Eldor Shomurodov and Artem Dovbyk, maintaining their impressive form after an unbeaten 17-match Serie A run. What a fantastic turnaround for Roma!

After just six minutes, Davide Frattesi found the net against his old club, but unfortunately for Roma fans, Carlos Augusto was caught offside before the assist. In an early twist, Benjamin Pavard had to limp off after a nasty ankle landing, allowing Yann Bisseck to step in. But the excitement mounted when Mile Svilar rushed out to thwart Hakan Calhanoglu, paving the way for Roma to seize control almost immediately. Matias Soulé made some impressive runs down the right, and while Manu Kone’s shot went astray, Lorenzo Pellegrini’s effort was perfectly redirected for an angled strike right back into Soulé’s path.

What an exhilarating match we witnessed! Bryan Cristante nearly found the net right after a brilliant cross from Pellegrini, but Carlos Augusto was quick to deny Shomurodov a scoring opportunity. Marko Arnautovic tried to wow us with an acrobatic volley, while Tommaso Baldanzi came close before Soulé curled one just past the mark. Denzel Dumfries made a triumphant return from injury, almost scoring with a challenging header, and Hakan Calhanoglu’s shot went just wide. Nicolò Barella had a fantastic chance, but sadly misfired from seven yards. Roma had a couple of fantastic chances to extend their lead, with Niccolò Pisilli coming close and Dovbyk missing a crucial touch, only to be thwarted by Francesco Acerbi. The tension peaked when Yann Bisseck’s penalty appeals were turned down in the final moments. What a nail-biter!
