The Derby della Capitale went the way of the Giallorossi, as Roma edged Lazio 1-0 in a fiery clash that saw plenty of drama, two red cards, and, most importantly, Pellegrini’s winner lighting up the Olimpico.

Lazio tried to come out swinging early on, but most of their pressure ended in fouls and stoppages that broke up the flow of the game. When they did threaten, Mile Svilar was there like a wall—diving brilliantly to deny Zaccagni’s curling effort.

Then came the breakthrough. Lazio gifted Roma the ball in a dangerous area, and Matias Soulé—so calm and clever—slid it into Pellegrini, who made no mistake. A clinical finish past Provedel and a roar from the Curva Sud—Roma 1-0 up in the derby.

Lazio’s big chance to respond came after the break when Dia was sent clear, but under pressure from Roma’s defenders he completely lost his head, ballooning his shot high into the night sky. From there, the Biancocelesti unraveled. Castellanos sent one wide, and frustration boiled over with Reda Belahyane shown a straight red for a nasty stamp on Manu Koné.

Roma kept their discipline, while Lazio kept losing theirs—Guendouzi earning himself a red card even after the final whistle. By the end, the only thing keeping Sarri’s men in the game was the woodwork, which denied Cataldi in stoppage time.

Pellegrini after a difficult pre-season and start to the season was included in the starting eleven and his goal earned him Panini Man of the Match.

That’s three wins from four for Roma, who now sit just a point behind Juventus and look ready to challenge at the top. Lazio, meanwhile, limp away from another derby disaster, stuck with only one win from their opening four matches. Nights like this belong to the Giallorossi.
