Lecce 0-4 AS Roma
Roma Cruise to Seventh Straight Serie A Victory.
Roma’s incredible momentum continues. The Giallorossi made it seven consecutive Serie A victories stretching back to last season, sweeping aside Lecce 4-0 at the Via del Mare and sending another huge statement to the rest of Italy.
Fresh from the emphatic 4-0 demolition of Fiorentina, Roma wasted no time taking control. Just four minutes were on the clock when Kialonda Gaspar’s mistake gifted Donyell Malen the opportunity, and the Dutchman showed exactly why he has become one of the most dangerous players in Serie A. He calmly slotted home to become the first Roma player since Vincenzo Montella in 2004/05 to score four goals across the club’s opening two league matches of a s
Roma were relentless. Matías Soulé forced a save from Wlaeason.dimiro Falcone before Malen struck again midway through the half. This time, Wesley França delivered the perfect ball to the near post, and Malen squeezed his finish beyond the Lecce goalkeeper to complete a superb brace.
A hat-trick looked inevitable, but Malen was happy to play provider instead. Just two minutes after his second goal, he squared the ball for Soulé, whose first effort was kept out by Falcone before he emphatically buried the rebound. 3-0 Roma — and the match was effectively over before half-time.
Lecce simply had no answer to the Giallorossi’s attacking intensity. They did have one opportunity to find a way back when Willem Geubbels raced through, but Mile Svilar stood tall, denying him brilliantly in the one-on-one. Roma, meanwhile, continued to create chances, with Soulé and Malen both going narrowly wide as Lecce desperately waited for the half-time whistle.
With the job essentially done, Roma understandably eased off after the break. Lecce finally found some joy and came agonisingly close to a consolation goal when Lassana Coulibaly’s header from a corner struck the post. Mario Hermoso then showed tremendous determination to scramble back and clear the danger off the line.
But even with the intensity reduced, Roma remained a constant threat. Paulo Dybala came close to adding a fourth, curling his effort just over when La Lupa were hungry for another goal.
And eventually, that fourth goal arrived.
Gianluca Mancini, charging forward from centre-back, picked out new signing Rodrigo Mora, who made no mistake from close range to open his Roma account. A dream moment for the youngster and the perfect way to cap another commanding Giallorossi performance.
4-0. Another clean sheet. Another three points. Another statement.
Roma are back at the summit of Serie A, and under Gian Piero Gasperini, there is a growing feeling that this could be the beginning of something genuinely special. A fourth consecutive away league victory and a fifth straight win over Lecce only add to the belief.
For the rest of the league, the message is becoming increasingly difficult to ignore:
Roma mean business.
And if Malen, Soulé, Dybala and the rest of this side continue clicking like this, why shouldn’t we dream of a serious Scudetto challenge? 🟡🔴🐺
