Match report: Lecce V AS Roma 6th January 2026

On 6 January 2026 by Gillyowl

Lecce 0 – 2 AS Roma

Having stumbled through four defeats in their previous six league outings, Roma arrived in Apulia with a point to prove, finding themselves outside the top four for the first time since September. Determined to remind everyone who they are, the Giallorossi came out firing against Lecce, taking control from the opening whistle. That intent paid off after just 14 minutes, when Paulo Dybala’s genius unlocked the defence, slipping a perfectly weighted pass to Evan Ferguson, who kept his cool to drill a low finish past Falcone for his third Serie A goal of the season.

Roma know how to manage games when they strike first — and this season, that’s usually been curtains. With ten wins from ten when opening the scoring, Gasperini’s side looked calm and authoritative as the first half wore on. Chances were limited, but Roma remained the only side with any real threat, Cristante seeing a promising effort blocked before Falcone was forced into a sharp save to deny Ferguson from close range.

Lecce, frankly, offered little before the break, and while they showed marginal improvement after half-time, it amounted to more hope than substance. Pierotti wasted their best opening by firing wide when well placed — a let-off Roma never looked like regretting. The visitors responded with chances of their own, though Wesley França and Dybala couldn’t quite apply the finishing touch.

The killer blow arrived inside the final 20 minutes, and it was ruthless. Pisilli’s driven cross-shot caused chaos in the box, and Artem Dovbyk was exactly where a Roma striker should be, calmly steering the ball home from six yards to seal the win. Game over.

From there, it was professional, controlled, and assured. Lecce ran out of ideas against a disciplined Roma back line, while the Giallorossi saw out the closing stages without alarm. The result not only delivered a deserved three points but also snapped a frustrating run of three straight Serie A away defeats — a timely reminder that Roma are very much back in the fight.

Roma win. And the climb resumes. 🐺💛❤️
