Match Report: Parma V AS Roma – 23rd February 2025

Roma, still reeling from the controversial Europa League draw against FC Porto, where the great Paulo Dybala suffered a knee injury, were forced to rotate their squad ahead of the second leg. To add to the challenges, Devyne Rensch was injured, and the ever-reliable Bryan Cristante was suspended. However, the young talents Lucas Gourna-Douath and Assane Sala-Eddine stepped up to the plate, ready to fight for the team.
Their opponents, the Ducali, found themselves in a precarious position, languishing near the bottom of the table with a mere single victory and two draws from the first ten rounds. Their injury woes worsened with seven of their normal lineup injured.
In the first half Gianluca Mancini came to the rescue, preventing Bonny from tapping the ball into the net. It was quite the dramatic moment!
However, things took a turn in Roma’s favor as the game neared the 30-minute mark. It was a thrilling moment when Matias Soulé broke through on a pass from Eldor Shomurodov, only to be tripped. Initially, the referee pointed out a penalty opportunity, but VAR had the last say. It turned out that the contact wasn’t inside the penalty area, so instead, Giovanni Leoni received a red card!
That free kick from Soule was pure magic! He curled it perfectly, over the wall and right into the top corner. Just brilliant!
Then, in the second half, we thought we had our second! Suzuki made a great save on Soulé’s shot, but Salah-Eddine was there for the rebound. It looked in, but the technology confirmed Suzuki somehow managed to keep it out – unbelievable! Suzuki also had to work hard to tip Pellegrini’s low shot around the post. Soulé was unlucky with a curling shot that went just wide, and Shomurodov’s header was a little off target from a great cross by Angelino.
Parma did have a couple of moments, but nothing really troubling. Sohm sent one over the bar, thankfully!
