Match Report: AS Roma V Inter – 1th September 2026

On 20 September 2026 by Gillyowl

Roma 2 v 2 Inter

Two goals up. Two goals from Manu Koné. Inter wobbling. And somehow they still escaped with a point.

Roma’s perfect Serie A start may have finally come to an end, but let’s be absolutely clear — Inter did not beat us.

They survived us.

The defending champions arrived at the Olimpico with a frightening attacking record, having scored 13 goals in their opening four matches.

Six minutes later, Roma had already matched that total.

Welcome to the Olimpico, boys.

Kone says hello

Roma wasted absolutely no time.

Paulo Dybala floated a delicious ball into the box, Nahuel Molina nodded it back into danger and there was Manu Koné lurking in exactly the right place.

One touch.

Close range.

BANG.

1-0 Roma.

Inter had conceded five goals in their previous two matches and, judging by that defending, clearly hadn’t figured out what was going wrong yet.

Dybala nearly doubled the advantage soon after, firing narrowly wide from distance as Roma began hunting for a second.

Inter eventually woke up.

Yann Bisseck charged into the box, but Mile Svilar came flying off his line to kill the attack.

Then Lautaro Martínez couldn’t quite connect with Federico Dimarco’s dangerous cross, before Curtis Jones produced a lovely flick to release Alessandro Bastoni, whose effort smashed the outside of the post.

Inter were knocking.

But Roma had the answer.

KONE AGAIN! 🇨🇮🔥

Just before half-time, Roma struck again.

A loose ball dropped inside the six-yard box and Koné was there again.

Of course he was.

The midfielder reacted quickest and smashed home his second of the night.

ROMA 2-0 INTER.

The Olimpico erupted.

VAR had a little look at Gianluca Mancini’s involvement in the build-up, presumably hoping to ruin everyone’s evening.

Nope.

Goal stands.

Two-nil.

Inter had a mountain to climb.

And somewhere in Milan, someone was probably wondering why they had bothered making the journey.

Then Lautaro decided to be annoying

Unfortunately, football has a nasty habit of refusing to follow the script.

Barely had the second half started when Lautaro Martínez pulled one back.

Marcus Thuram cut the ball across and Martínez got enough on it with his shin to send it beyond Svilar.

2-1.

Fine.

Whatever.

Roma still had the lead.

And they weren’t about to panic.

Both sides made changes, slowing the rhythm of the match, but Roma remained dangerous.

Especially one particular Dutchman.

Malen nearly finishes them

Donyell Malen has been absolutely flying since arriving in Rome, and the league’s top scorer almost added another chapter to his ridiculous start.

Malen spun inside the box and smashed an effort towards goal.

Josep Martínez got his face in the way.

Literally.

His face.

That’s the kind of commitment required to stop Roma these days. 😂

Malen looked like he couldn’t believe it.

Neither could we.

Lautaro strikes again

With 11 minutes remaining, Inter somehow found another way back.

Thuram’s header was brilliantly saved by Svilar after a chaotic scramble inside the box.

The ball fell loose.

Martínez was waiting.

Of course he was.

The Argentine controlled it with his thigh and absolutely leathered the volley into the net.

2-2.

Two goals down.

Two goals back.

Fair play to Inter — they refused to disappear.

But let’s be honest…

They had to work extremely hard just to get a draw.

One final scare

The Olimpico was still bouncing and Roma had chances to steal it right at the end.

Thuram found himself with an opportunity to complete the comeback, but his side-footed effort agonisingly drifted wide.

Thank you, Marcus.

We’ll take that.

The final whistle eventually arrived.

Roma 2-2 Inter.

A frustrating result considering Roma had been two goals ahead, but there’s plenty to take from this.

The Giallorossi’s nine-game winning run in Serie A may have ended, but the unbeaten run at the Olimpico continues.

15 league games unbeaten at home.

11 wins.

4 draws.

And importantly, Roma remain level on points with the defending champions.

Inter may have rescued themselves from defeat, but they certainly didn’t walk into Rome and take control.

They were two goals down.

They were rattled.

And they needed Lautaro Martínez to produce a brace to save them.

The Koné show 🎩

Let’s give the man his flowers.

Manu Koné.

Two goals.

Power.

Energy.

Desire.

And an absolutely ridiculous performance against the defending champions.

The guy didn’t just turn up for Inter.

He bullied them.

Malen remains the league’s top scorer, Svilar continues to produce when called upon, and Roma have shown once again that they can go toe-to-toe with the best in Italy.

Yes, the perfect record is gone.

But Roma are still unbeaten.

Still level with Inter.

Still unbeaten in 15 at the Olimpico.

And still very much in the conversation.

So Inter can enjoy their point.

They earned it.

Just remember…

Inter were 2-0 down. At the Olimpico.

We’ll see you again.

DAJE ROMA! 🟡🔴🐺

FORZA ROMA — SEMPRE.
