Match Report – Torino V AS Roma – 25th May 2025

On 26 May 2025 by Gillyowl

Torino 0 – 2 Roma

Claudio Ranieri’s coaching journey with Roma has come to a close, marking a heartfelt chapter in his illustrious career. Under his guidance, the Giallorossi fought hard to secure a Europa League spot, ultimately finishing in fourth place. It was a tense evening, with Roma sat in that crucial position for much of the match, only for a spirited Juventus comeback to edge them out.

The team knew they had to give their all—winning their final game and hoping that Juventus stumbled in Venice to clinch that coveted Champions League qualification. Meanwhile, Lazio was lurking just behind, ready to pounce on the fifth spot and secure their own Europa League adventure.

Roma fans were eager and hopeful, especially with Artem Dovbyk returning from injury, even though he was only available from the bench. The squad faced challenges with key players like Paulo Dybala and Lorenzo Pellegrini sidelined for several months, alongside injuries affecting Duvan Zapata, Yann Karamoh, Borna Sosa, Saul Coco, and Alieu Njie. Despite these hurdles, the passion and resilience of the team shone through, and Claudio’s leadership leaves a lasting legacy of fighting spirit and determination.

Certainly! Here’s a friendly, Roma-biased recap of the match:

—

What a rollercoaster of a night for Roma fans! The energy was electric right from the start, with Eldor Shomurodov nearly giving the Giallorossi an early lead after just 120 seconds. His powerful angled shot looked destined for the net, but the ball clattered off the upright—so close, yet so exhilarating!

Leandro Paredes also sent a thunderous shot over the crossbar, reminding everyone of his incredible shooting ability. Meanwhile, Che Adams had a moment of misfortune as he lost possession, allowing our own Ali Dembele to make a clumsy challenge that resulted in a Roma penalty. Paredes stepped up confidently and hammered the ball into the side-netting, despite Vanja Milinkovic-Savic guessing the right way—what a cool and composed finish!

With Juventus struggling against Venezia, Roma found themselves in a fantastic position—currently sitting fourth in the Champions League standings. The atmosphere was buzzing with hope and pride.

The second half brought more chances—Manu Kone’s powerful shot was brilliantly deflected over the bar, and Matias Soulé just couldn’t keep his shot down from close range. Nikola Vlasic tested the Juventus goalkeeper Mile Svilar, showing our midfield’s determination to push forward.

Just before halftime, the news broke that Juventus had turned the game around, leading 2-1—a tough blow, but Roma kept fighting. In the second half, the Giallorossi showed resilience. Soulé floated a perfect cross to the back post, finding Alexis Saelemaekers, who headed home an incredible, completely unmarked goal—what a moment for the team!

There was a tense moment when Eljif Elmas had penalty appeals, but the referee correctly saw that the contact with Shomurodov was outside the box. Then, Soulé almost doubled the lead with a stunning curler that just kissed the crossbar—so close to making it 3-2!

Perciun’s shot tested Svilar’s reflexes, and Bryan Cristante thought he had scored with a clever finish from the edge of the area, but unfortunately, it was disallowed due to an offside involving Angelino. Just moments later, Che Adams nearly equalized with a daisy-cutter that rattled the base of the upright from outside the box—Roma’s defense held strong when it mattered most.

All in all, a thrilling night showing the heart and spirit of Roma. The team fought hard, and with moments like these, the future looks bright for our Giallorossi!
