Match Report – Lecce V AS Roma – 29th March 2025
On 30 March 2025 by GillyowlLecce 0 V 1 AS Roma
Claudio Ranieri’s men are facing a tough challenge as they gear up to finish the season without their star player, Paulo Dybala. To add to their woes, they’re also missing three other key players due to injuries. However, Filip Marchwinski remains the only one on the treatment table for the hosts, who sported eye-catching vintage jerseys that paid homage to the club’s rich history.
The match had a promising start for Roma when they almost found the back of the net in the 9th minute. A miscommunication between Wladimiro Falcone and Frederic Guilbert on a long ball led to a peculiar collision, creating a golden opportunity. Unfortunately for the Giallorossi, Angelino couldn’t take advantage of the unguarded net and somehow turned the ball wide—an opportunity that had all the signs of an early Roma goal.
As the game unfolded, Thorir Helgason came tantalizingly close, firing just wide from the edge of the area after Matias Soule’s mishap. Soule then had a shot deflected following a clever back-heel flick from Artem Dovbyk, showing glimpses of creativity from the team. It was the remarkable Wladimiro Falcone, however, who kept the hosts in the game with a stunning reaction save during a one-on-one with Manu Kone, after Kone had cleverly dispossessed Ylber Ramadani inside the penalty area.
Despite these setbacks and challenges, the spirit of Roma remained undeterred, showcasing resilience and determination on the pitch! Keep your heads up, Giallorossi—there’s still plenty of fight left in this season!
What a thrilling display on the pitch! Federico Gallo’s darting run down the left side had Mile Svilar scrambling as he stung his gloves with a powerful shot. Angelino was there in a flash, acrobatically clearing the rebound to keep the pressure off. Mats Hummels was also quick to act, preventing Nikola Krstovic from capitalizing on Guilbert’s cross at the near post.
Jesper Karlsson had a golden chance on the counter but will surely be disappointed with his weak shot straight at Svilar. Similarly, Lorenzo Pellegrini had a great opportunity but fired over when it looked easier to score.
Krstovic showcased his creativity with an audacious lob from midfield that narrowly missed the target. Dovbyk’s follow-up effort took a slight deflection off Kialonda Gaspar, forcing Falcone to make a spectacular save with his leg.
The excitement peaked during the corner when Dovbyk’s glancing header seemed to have found the net through Gianluca Mancini’s touch at the back post, only to be ruled offside after a lengthy VAR check. Tensions flared as Alexis Saelemaekers was booked for dissent, meaning he’ll miss the crucial match against Juventus—his teammates will surely feel that absence.
But fortune smiled upon Roma in the final ten minutes! Dovbyk showcased his strength, shrugging off Federico Baschirotto before cutting inside Gaspar and striking a stunning left-footed finish through the legs of the defender into the bottom corner.
Rome’s hero continued to shine, forcing another save from Falcone shortly after with a clever lay-off from Eldor Shomurodov. Lameck Banda then tested Svilar with a fierce shot from distance, signaling Roma’s determination to extend their lead.
In the dying moments, Shomurodov had a chance to seal the match but swept his effort wide of the near post, and his angled drive in stoppage time was kept out by a superb save from Falcone.
What an exhilarating match, showcasing Roma’s resilience and attacking flair! With this victory, the excitement builds for the end of season showdown.
