Match Report: AS Roma V Como- 15th December 2025
On 16 December 2025 by Gillyowl
AS Roma 1 – 0 Como
Roma did what was required at the Stadio Olimpico, seeing off Como with a composed and professional performance that underlined the growing maturity of the Giallorossi, even if the final score line failed to fully reflect their dominance.
From the opening whistle, Roma took command of possession, pinning Como deep inside their own half and immediately setting the tempo. The visitors arrived with a compact shape and clear intention to frustrate, but Roma’s movement and pressing ensured Como were rarely allowed to breathe.
Early chances followed as Roma worked the ball patiently through midfield, stretching Como laterally and forcing defensive errors. Crosses and set pieces piled up, with the Giallorossi repeatedly knocking on the door while Como’s goalkeeper was kept busy from the outset.
Despite Roma’s territorial control, Como’s resistance held through the first phase of the match, helped by deep defending and a willingness to break up play. Roma remained calm, circulating the ball and refusing to be drawn into rushed decisions — a sign of a side increasingly comfortable controlling matches rather than chasing them.
The breakthrough, when it came, was fully deserved. A moment of quality cut through Como’s low block, rewarding Roma’s persistence and igniting the Olimpico. Rather than sitting back, Roma pushed on, sensing vulnerability and looking to kill the game before the interval.
Como attempted to respond after the break with greater aggression, but Roma’s back line remained composed and well-organised, snuffing out danger before it could develop. Any hope of a comeback was largely limited to hopeful long balls and speculative efforts, comfortably dealt with by Roma’s defence and goalkeeper.
As the match wore on, Roma reasserted their control, slowing the tempo intelligently and managing the game with authority. Substitutions were used to maintain energy and structure, ensuring Roma never lost their grip on proceedings.
A second goal — again the product of patience and superior quality — effectively settled the contest, allowing Roma to close the game out with minimal drama. Even in the closing stages, Roma looked the more likely to add to the scoreline, while Como were left chasing shadows.
At full time, the verdict was clear. Roma controlled the match, dictated the rhythm, and collected three points without ever needing to reach top gear. It was not a night for fireworks, but a reminder that winning comfortably, even against stubborn opposition, is the hallmark of a side building something solid.
A personal special word must go to Stephan El Shaarawy, whose intelligence, work rate and quiet quality once again underpinned Roma’s control of the match. The Egyptian was relentless down his flank, offering constant movement, tracking back diligently, and providing an outlet whenever Roma needed to stretch Como’s defensive block. El Shaarawy’s contribution went beyond statistics. His positioning created space for others, his pressing disrupted Como’s build-up, and his calm decision-making helped Roma maintain tempo rather than descend into impatience. On a night where discipline and balance were essential, he delivered both in abundance. It was the kind of performance Roma fans have come to value deeply: selfless, tactically astute, and consistently effective. Not flashy, not loud — just decisive in all the ways that matter. He remains my favourite player.
