Match report: Parma v AS Roma: 11th May 2026

Parma 2 – 3 Roma
What a match. What a comeback. What a statement from AS Roma. In a season where every point matters in the race for the Champions League places, the Giallorossi showed unbelievable character to fight until the very last second and secure a dramatic 3-2 victory over Parma at the Stadio Ennio Tardini. This was the kind of win that can define a season.
Roma started brightly and thought they had taken the lead inside 10 minutes when Donyell Malen found the net, only for the offside flag to deny him. It felt like one of those frustrating afternoons was coming, especially after Roma were also denied what looked like a clear penalty when Gianluca Mancini was brought down in the box. But this team kept pushing, and eventually the breakthrough arrived in style. Paulo Dybala produced a sensational defence-splitting pass, and Malen’s control with his knee before smashing the ball into the corner was pure class. A striker full of confidence and composure.
Roma could and probably should have been further ahead before halftime. Matías Soulé came agonisingly close when his header crashed against the post, while Parma survived several dangerous moments thanks to Zion Suzuki. Still, there was a feeling Roma were in control and deserved more than just a one-goal lead.
The second half completely changed the mood. Parma came out with energy and equalised almost immediately through Gabriel Strefezza after a perfectly timed pass from Hans Nicolussi Caviglia exposed the defence. Suddenly the stadium came alive and the pressure shifted onto Roma. Malen had another huge opportunity moments later but Suzuki produced another massive save to deny him. Then came more frustration as Parma thought they had gone ahead through substitute Mateo Pellegrino, only for another offside flag to rescue Roma.
Even then, the drama was far from over. Malen continued tormenting Parma’s defence and kept testing Suzuki, but the goalkeeper seemed determined to keep Roma out. Then came the nightmare moment late in the match when Mandela Keita fired Parma ahead with a stunning strike — his first Serie A goal in years — and it felt like Roma’s top-four hopes had taken a devastating blow.
But this Roma side refused to die. Deep into stoppage time, substitute Rensch stepped up with ice-cold composure to guide the equaliser into the far corner and silence the home crowd. The momentum completely shifted. Minutes later, Rensch was dragged down in the box, giving Roma one final chance from the penalty spot. Up stepped Malen in the 101st minute with enormous pressure on his shoulders — and he delivered. Calm, clinical, and absolutely fearless.
The final whistle sparked wild celebrations from the Roma players and fans alike. This was more than just three points. It was passion, resilience, belief, and the mentality that supporters want to see from a team fighting to return to Europe’s biggest stage. Roma now move level on points with AC Milan, and if they continue showing this kind of spirit, the dream of Champions League football is very much alive. Forza Roma sempre.
