Match Report – AS Roma V Verona– 28th September 2025
On 1 October 2025 by GillyowlRoma 2-0 Verona
Roma made it three wins in seven glorious days, capping off a perfect week with a gritty 2-0 victory over Hellas Verona at the Olimpico. It wasn’t always pretty, but with goals from Artem Dovbyk and Matias Soulé, and some heroic moments from Mile Svilar, the Giallorossi proved once again that even when they’re not at their best, they know how to win.
Coming off the high of a derby della Capitale triumph and a hard-fought Europa League win in Nice, this match had all the signs of a potential banana skin. Add in the continued absences of Paulo Dybala and Leon Bailey, and it was up to captain Lorenzo Pellegrini and the rest of the squad to dig deep. And dig they did.
It didn’t take long to give the home fans something to cheer: just eight minutes in, new signing Artem Dovbyk announced himself to the Curva Sud with a textbook header back across goal, turning in Zeki Çelik’s pinpoint cross. A first Serie A start, a first goal – and hopefully the first of many.
Verona had their moments — and honestly, they’ll be having nightmares about them. Gift Orban had the Olimpico gasping with a near certain equaliser, only for Svilar to do his best impersonation of Superman, saving with his face from point-blank range. Bruised but unbroken, our young keeper stood tall all game.
Later, Orban somehow missed an open goal from three yards, proving that the football gods were clearly dressed in red and yellow tonight.
Roma had their scares, yes, and Verona were lively, but when it mattered most, it was the home side that showed their class. Pellegrini sparked the second goal with his determination in midfield, Manu Koné’s deflected flick fell kindly for Soulé, who calmly slotted in to seal the victory with the swagger of a player who belongs in this shirt.
Even in stoppage time, there was drama – Orban thought he’d finally scored, only for VAR to spot the faintest touch of his arm. The Olimpico roared its approval. Fate, justice, or just Roma being Roma? We’ll take it.
Three points. Clean sheet. Three wins in a week. And we’re still climbing. After the weekend games had all been player Roma are now joint first place in the Serie A table with Milan and Napoli.
